CHRIS CORNELL AS A DAD

For the rest of you who are not into the whole rock music scene, meet Chris Cornell. Chris is the lead vocalist of the bands "Soundgarden" and "Audioslave." Yes, he has 2 bands--kinda like me, I am editor for 2 magazines--which means we're absolutely NOT in the same league. Anyway...

Known as one of the best voices in music, I also want to add that he is one of the most good-looking performers of our time. When I got the call about whether we were interested in having Chris on the cover of BC, I turned to my husband to ask him and he said (wide-eyed in disbelief that I should even ask), "Of course!" Goes to show that my musical proficiency was limited to the likes of Wilson Phillips (I have met Carnie Wilson, by the way, and I'll be posting my video interview with her soon--but going back to Chris...). So when I said we'd love to have Chris on the cover to my friend, the incomparable photographer, Meeno Peluce, I began the quest for styling options.

When I met the Cornells, I thought that they were the personification of coolness. How often do you get to see a rockstar just happy and content to hang out with his kids? (Side note: I have seen Chris on several occasions at the park near our former home in LA, just by himself while the kids zigzag between the swings, sand, and slides).

And how sweet is he towards his wife, Vicky, whose body is just insane? You will see more of that in the video once my new show with NMF Netwrok is up, so please watch out for that. I would love to be able to eat anything and just be that toned and sexy. Vicky confessed that she stays slim by hopping on the elliptical. And believe me when I tell you that the woman has no body fat--and that I also bought an elliptical years after, which I have yet to hop on after baby #3. Actually, I got to change both Chris and Vicky, and between the two of them, it's hard to imagine--judging from their physique--that there is any food served at their home.

At first, I was hesitant to ask the husband and wife about what they wanted to wear from what I pulled, but it's good that they were very open and especially after the first layout, lent me their trust for the day. Vicky is this charismatic character, and Chris is the poster boy for zen. I was hoping that sometime during the day Chris would belt out the song from the James Bond movie, but to my surprise, it was the kids that were singing their dad's song, "Sunshower." And both parents were beaming, naturally. I just adore Toni and Baby Chris, who were both so well-behaved and sweet. All we needed during some low-energy moments were some peanut M&M's, and we were back in business.

It was a relatively easy shoot, and the home location at Hollywood Hills was perfect. It was raining buckets though, and we had to keep shutting the door so no cold air would come in, because it could hurt Chris' throat. I remember seeing muddy water running fast downwards the steep street, that it was scary when the family stepped out of the car because there were several steps to climb before they could reach the house. Brrr, I shiver from fear again.

Myself with the Cornells, post-shoot. Let's look at the size of Vicky's pressed arms compared to mine that is barely touching my body...

One of my partners, Diether Ocampo, who is a very talented actor and singer himself, is a fan of Chris', and flew to L.A. just in time for this shoot, and also because we were due to talk shop about BC. But I know it was really more for this shoot, haha. The other gentleman looking at the camera with them is Stephen Seidel, one of our editors. The Cornells were on the 2-cover special we had for Spring 2009.

It would be an understatement to say that I am honored that they chose BC to share a bit of their family time with, and that this will be a memory I'll forever cherish.

What beautiful photos. I love how sweet Chris looks with his children, you can tell he adores them. I was wondering if Vicky is related to Cher? She looks like she could be her niece. She is thin like Cher. Anyhow, lovely photos.
